Summary
Saying that it's time to thank him for the delicious tangerines Rosenberg sent him [and his wife]. The drawing is all that's left of them. He is now in Issy-les-Moulineaux, where the weather is dreary and rainy. He hopes that Rosenberg is having a restful stay. He thanks Rosenberg for taking the initiative with Renoir concerning his small painting and would like to know what Renoir thought of it. What period does he think it could be from? He says that Rosenberg is lucky to see Renoir so often, a man Matisse admires greatly but has never met. He is grateful that Rosenberg met with Renoir, not knowing what Renoir might think of him [Matisse] and not wishing to annoy him. Matisse is working right now in his living room on a painting for Rosenberg. He hopes Rosenberg will be happy with it. He tells Rosenberg to enjoy the good weather and to think about Paris, where the weather is bad. The Seine is rising, and coal, already in short supply, may soon be even scarcer if the weather continues. Matisse has the idea of going to rest for 2 weeks where Rosenberg is. However, he's probably going to go to Savoie to work.
