Summary
Referring to the letter he sent him on November 3, 1799 (MA 1269.10) signed by all the Officers of the Regiment to "endeavour to get us removed from hence which I hope will have the desired effect;" enclosing copies of a letter from "Col. Montresor...likewise our answers and I make no doubt but you will think it equally extraordinary as we do - it is signed by almost every officer here except the two young ones that last joined and if that will not make them more attentive for the future, nothing will;" informing him that "young Montrésor [William Robert Montresor] died last Saturday after an illness about 36 hours - he was seized with violent convulsions and remained so untill he expired - Tis a dreadful stroke for his family after their recent misfortunes. The idea seems to prevail among the big ones that the Reg't will more likely go home...The accounts we have here of the army in Holland are not very favorable, but I hope we may get well off;" discussing a charge for Knapsacks which have not yet been delivered to the soldiers.
