Reporting that due to heavy rain his troops stopped for the night "on the hill at one of the McLeans we purpose seting off between daylight & Sunrise and the old man purposes to bring us down by the Meeting House to the cross roads I expect to be with you tolerable early, try to get some provisions for me;" reporting that he had seen a deserter who said "England has declared war against France."
