Description
1 item (1 page, with address) ; 19 x 11.9 cm
Notes
The letter is undated. An earlier catalog record lists "Bertram" as the play that Maturin is referring to, but it seems more likely that the play in question is "Fredolfo," in which Charles Kemble appeared during its short run in 1819.
Addressed to "W. M. Mason Esqr / Harcourt Street." Maturin has also written "Revd. Chas. Maturin / York Street" below this, but it has been crossed out. York Street is a street in Dublin where Maturin is known to have lived at various times.
See collection files for more information.

Provenance
Purchased from the London dealer Winifred A. Myers, Ltd., 1974.
Summary
Saying that he has just received disastrous news from London: "My play is withdrawn from a caprico of Charles Kemble who happens not to be the first character -- if you will admit a very unfortunate man tomorrow evening (when of course you will be at home) I shall most gratefully avail myself of your indispensible information"; sending his respects to Mrs. and Miss Mason.
