Summary
Commenting on Fort George; saying "This is the completest little place I ever saw & I think was well adapted when built, to the objects of the times, & tho' one would not think perhaps of building it under the present circumstances, I am clearly of opinion it ought to be kept up. It is an excellent, safe Depot, even as things now are, & not to be insulted by a small force, tho' it should have but one strong Reg't, & a few Artillery to defend it. We are very desirous to hear about the Brest Fleet, tho' the space of time which must elapse between your knowing in London its destination, & the news arriving here, takes off very much from that edge, interest, & anxiety which prevails at the place where the counteracting measures are to be determined on."
