Summary
Regarding a letter from Plunket on political matters: "I [...] feel myself honored by the attention you think proper to bestow on me, and by the clear and candid detail you have submitted to my judgment. I wish however to correct an erroneous supposition, you entertain with regard to my situation in College. My habits, sir, are those of Study and seclusion, and the very few young men I am in the habit of mixing with, dedicated like myself to the sacred profession, and entertaining the most serious apprehensions of its importance seldom have recourse to a conversation of which politics constitute the subject"; explaining that Plunket's letter "has placed the Advantage of your Cause in a stronger light, it has obviated some Objections that had been suggested against it" and that he wishes he could help a "political friend"; saying, however, that his "habits and pursuits prevent me from rendering more important services, or a more valuable attestation to your merits, than the offer of a Solitary Suffrage."
