Summary
Saying "I have received the volumes & read the Dedication - worded with the generosity I have reason to know so well from your hand. Such literary reputation as is mine owes its most to you. When you tell me that you may be active soon, I have the hope of some nourishment in these days of quantity & small [illegible]. Your London Voluntaries & the Burns Essay have been my refreshment. As for me, I have idled with verse of late. It comes [illegible]. I dread [illegible] seizure by a novel. Until that comes I put it to myself, why write if I am constantly denounced as obscure. I have no wish to trouble the public, would much rather look on & praise the winners."
