Manuscript has been collated with he first printed edition. Manuscript lacks Canto I, paragraphs 2, 3, and 4 (to last four lines); Canto II, paragraph XXXI differs from printed version; Canto IV contains an additional paragraph XI, which has been canceled.
Manuscript is preceded by a note on the flyleaf by Archibald Constable, dated Edinburgh, 18 Apr. 1821: "This is the original manuscript of Rokeby by Sir Walter Scott Bart.--the whole in his own handwriting--some few of the notes excepted which appear to have been copied by Henry Weber..."

Summary
Written on the rectos and some versos of 184 leaves (of varying dimensions, 22.9-33 cm), with autograph corrections and additions throughout. The text of the poem is preceded by an autograph title page and dedication (1 p.) and by an autograph advertisement (1 p.). Several sections were mailed to Ballantyne in 3- or 4-page increments (as letters) and the manuscript contains several postmarked address panels contiguous with the text.
