Collection includes thirty-eight autograph letters from Scott to recipients including William Abbott, William Atkinson, David Bridges, the Duke of Buckingham, Robert Davidson, Charles Dumergue, Sir Robert Dundas, John Gibson, William Hayley, Francis Jeffrey, Marechal Macdonald, Lord Melville, John Richardson, Lady Frances Winckley Shelley, Thomas Shortreed, Robert Southey, Daniel Terry, Margaret Wedderburn, Robert Wilson, and other mainly unidentified recipients (MA 432.1-7 and MA 432.9-38); an autograph document signed by John Ballantyne (MA 432.8); two autograph manuscript fragments by Scott (from "My Aunt Margaret's Mirror" and Tales of a Grandfather) and a page from the autograph manuscript of The Abbot (MA 432.39-41); an autograph memorandum by Scott (MA 432.43) and an accompanying autograph letter signed from A.P. Moore (MA 432.42); a receipt written in Scott's hand and signed by his wife, Margaret Charlotte Carpenter Scott (MA 432.44); an autograph document signed by Scott's son, Walter Scott (MA 432.45); two autograph letters written by "Mr. Scott" that seem to be from one of Scott's sons (Walter or Charles) but are not signed (MA 432.46-47); two autograph letters signed from Scott's father, also Walter Scott, to James Chalmer (MA 432.48-49); seven autograph letters signed from John Gibson Lockhart, Scott's son-in-law and biographer, to various recipients (MA 432.50-56); and one autograph letter signed from Talleyrand to the Comte de Montalivet (MA 432.57).
