Summary
Acknowledging receipt of his letter of the 9th; saying he "wrote Col. Warner who is at Fort Stark with his whole regiment which, as some of his Officers Informs me Consists of no more than 110 Exclusive of Commissioned Officers, a force too Small Considering the number of the Enemy at Crown point and the few Inhabitants capable of bearing arms In this quarter; I have Intreated Col. Warner to keep a good look out and to give me the most Early Intelligence should any enemy tend this way that I may hasten up the Militia. I do not Suppose you can at present Spare any troops from the western Communication but when Gansevoort is relieved by [van] Schaick I could wish for three Companies of his In this quarter as I apprehend more Danger from a visit when the lakes are frozen In winter than at any time before. I wish you may reach Cherry Valley before the Enemy who certainly mean to attack either that place or Schoharie, If I can depend on the Information an Oneida has this day given me;" telling him he can count on him for any assistance he is able to provide.
