Notes
Each sheet bears an embossed circle in upper left corner with the words "Batin Post" around a crown.
Formerly bound with MA 933.1, a portrait of Barrett Browning, and MA 933.2, the autograph manuscript of Catarina to Camoens.
Formerly housed in a binding by Dawson & Lewis in green morocco, lettered in gilt on both covers: "Mrs. Browning / Sonnets / from the Portuguese / and / Catarina to Camoens / 'The loveliest sonnets / in the English language." Manuscripts have been removed but the binding has been retained.
High reserve.
Sonnets 27-28 (numbered 28-29 in this manuscript) are written on a single sheet, one on recto and the other on verso.
Sonnets numbered 19-29 in this manuscript were published as sonnets 18-28 in the 1850 edition.
This manuscript does not include a draft of sonnet 17, which begins "My poet, thou canst touch on all the notes."
