Summary
Explaining that he is detained longer than he expected, therefore he is enclosing a letter from General Washington and several others though the letter from the President of the Congress he "cannot trust out of my own hand;" reporting that the Assembly of Virginia is in session "but they have done nothing of any consequence yet. I hope, however, that the Army will claim a part of their attention. Your Letter has been read, but I have heard nothing more said of it, than that it was a very good one;" reporting that the British Army has returned "and report says that Sir Henry Clinton has disappeared : conjectured by some that he has drowned himself;" expecting to see him a few days after the arrival of this letter.
