Summary
Concerning Captain Sutherland, "an officer in your Lordships Regiment..;" discussing the demands by Captain Sutherland for pensions for his mother and sisters and subsequently for an additional sum for himself and a promotion; commenting that "Both the Nature and Stile of this Application respecting Himself made it impossible to think for a moment of complying with It;" suggesting that it would be helpful to dissuade Captain Sutherland "from an inconsiderable Step which seems evidently likely to involve him in great distress, and which therefore (whatever I may think of his Conduct in this Instance) It would be impossible not to regret;" asking that he not mention this communication to Captain Sutherland .
