Mr. Knatchbull was serving as a Member of Parliament from Kent.
Part of a collection of letters from and to William Pitt the Elder and William Pitt the Younger. Letters are described in individual records; see MA 894-895 for more detail.
Acknowledging his "Zeal for the Cause in which We are engaged, I flatter myself your opinion is likely to remain unaltered in support of the vigorous Prosecution of the War; which is indeed the only Line in our Power, and which notwithstanding Events on the Continent, affords every day fresh Grounds of Hope, from the Internal distresses and difficulties of the Enemy;" asking if he would "move the Address at the opening of the approaching Session. The Motion would come with peculiar advantage from you as the Representative of a County which has distinguished itself so much by its Zeal and activity; and if it should not be disagreeable to you to undertake it, I shall personally feel myself very much obliged to you;" apologizing that he has not had time to answer his letter on the subject of Packets(?).
