Summary
Congratulating him on "Trilby"; saying she had just read the first chapter in Harpers and "...I am as much delighted as I expected to be. I could not say more. The laird is to the life - both in text & illustrations...Trilby himself seems to me a most delightful & original creature - only I hate to have it in monthly doses. I left my husband at the reading room, with Harper in his turn. We hope Gerald has his foot well on the ladder, & that the New Year, having begun with good promise, will fulfil all your hearts' desires;" sending her love to him and to his wife.
