Summary
Thanking him for sending a fossil, though confessing that "I am shamefully ignorant in what relates to fossils" and "I shall consult the learned in these matters before I shew it to the R[oyal] Society"; thanking him also for his observations about sightings of swallows and martins in December; promising to send him what Barrington has written about the migration patterns of swallows when it appears in the Philosophical Transactions for 1772; commenting on the torpidity of flies in winter; asking whether the observers are sure about the different species, regarding "the Swallow at Poole & the Marten near Christchurch."
