Summary
Commenting on a letter by Blunt (likely Wilfrid Blunt) of literary criticism; saying "The criticism has much truth in it - but I wonder a little if he would care for any subject not directly concerned with human passion - Would he enormously care for Milton's poems-;" commenting on specific poems by her father saying "I think for the General public King Poppy also fails as a subject....Ch[ronicles] & Ch[aracters] vary - The 2nd rate Sensitive Poet is a very interesting subject and so is the Botanists Grave - & this last certainly one of the best he ever wrote - & Licinius is magnificent;" relating news of her visit to Leeds and a speech she gave saying "I made a tiny speech & hated it - my knees shook under me & my voice sounded harsh & strange - I said what i wanted to say without writing anything down, & people were of course kind & civil - but I quite convinced myself I hold no talent for the thing;" asking if she has read "Anthony Hope's Double Harness - If not please do. It is one of the cleverest novels I have ever read in English & deeply interesting - I should like to know your opinion about it - & Lull's(?) - Miss Lawless' little life of Maria Edgeworth is also quite delightful;" adding, in a postscript, brief comments on members of Parliament.
