Summary
Hoping he receives a letter from her "of a late date" since she talked of being unwell in her last letter; asking her to write at every opportunity and to be "very particular" in her letters; discussing the situation in Virginia and hoping he gets to winter "to the Northward" instead of pushing further south; mentioning that "hungers & fatigues have robbed [him] of all [his] fat"; noting that she wrote about spending the summer in Jersey or Goshen, but he does not know where she is; bidding her keep a good cheer, but warning her "not to entertain too sanguine hopes of [his] returning."
