Summary
Concerning the resignation of Lord Lansdowne and the [Catholic Relief] Bill of 1813; acknowledging receipt of his letter which he sent at once to Lord Lansdowne before he resigned; saying "Of course it was too late to be of any service - tho' the spirit which prompted it was conciliatory & wise - That a calamity has befallen the Cath. Interest & Ireland generally cannot I fear be doubted - a very friendly gov't has been succeeded by one of an exceedingly unfriendly aspect - But there are strong reports prevailing of something favourable to the Caths being done - It is said the intention is to give them every thing but Parl't - in a word the Bill of 1813 as sent up to the Lords...This would [be] the most extraordinary testimony that could be borne to the necessity of the great measure & the most [illegible] contradiction to all the cries of No Popery set up ag't us so pertinaciously;" asking for his opinion.
