Notes
Address panel with postmark and fragment of a seal to "Capt'n Jonas Hanway / at Lavington near / Midhurst / Sussex/"
Jonas Hanway did have an estate at Lavington, however, he was born in 1712 and this letter is addressed to him as Captain Jonas Hanway, which makes the identity of the recipient somewhat unclear.
Removed from an extra-illustrated copy of Andrew Lang, Prince Charles Edward, (Paris, New York: Goupil & co., Manzi, Joyant & co., 1900), v. I, p. 31.
