Summary
Acknowledging Manners-Sutton's letter of thanks for the gift of his paintings to the British Museum; explaining that "[h]aving had the mortification of observing the number of pictures which are annually destroyed by injudicious & unnecessary cleaning, I have for years been anxious to deposit the few pictures I have been able to collect in a place of security for the use of the Public; & how could that wish be more satisfactorily accomplished than under the protection of your Grace & the other enlightened Trustees of the British Museum."
