Summary
Arranging a meeting at the post office on Lombard Street to select a deputy postmaster; writing that he would "be much obliged to you, and the Persons concerned in this affair, if you would settle this matter amongst yourselves, before you came, as Lord Grantham and I are very desirous that all sides should be pleased, it being the same thing to us who the deputy is, provided the business of the Public be properly executed"; mentioning that the Duke of Portland interests himself in the appointment; adding that the differences of opinion over who should be chosen put him in "great difficulties."
