Summary
Concerning a possible position for a Mr. Montgomery; saying "Your Excellency may rest assured that it is my wish to comply with yours respecting Mr. Montgomery, whenever the opportunity may present itself; but I cannot permit you to remain ignorant that there are very few livings from £110 to £120 per an. in my patronage; & the age & contributions of the persons in possession do not seem to promise a prospect of a speedy avoidance. Your Excellency will allow me to remind you that being neither a Soldier nor a Physician I am not authorized to tell when natural death creates a suitable vacancy."
