The addressee's name is not given. In June 2019, Professor Christine Théré identified François Boissier de la Croix de Sauvages, a French physician and botanist, as most likely the addressee. In the letter, Quesnay refers to two medical theses, Pulsus et circulationis theoria (Montpellier, 1752) and Theoria tumorum (Montpellier, 1753), which with De la Croix de Sauvages had been associated.
