Summary
Describing his travels in Tuscany, with stops in Viareggio, Livorno, Elba, Bagni di Lucca, and Florence; giving an account of his time aboard the ship Bellerophon; describing dinners, festivals, and visits to galleries (the Uffizi and others), churches, and other points of interest, such as Napoleon's villa on Elba; commenting on special events, like the Austrian Emperor's birthday, a "mesmeric soirée", and the Corsa dei Cocchi in Florence; describing meetings with notable individuals, among them the actress Adelaide Ristori, the Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopoldo II, and the painter Seymour Kirkup; giving extensive lists of the people in the various communities he visited, including the crew and passenger list of the Bellerophon and the names of foreign residents in Bagni di Lucca at the time.
