Hoping that Greene's wife Catherine will stay with Custis and his wife if she travels to the South; congratulating him on the "glorious victory" of September 8th [Battle of Eutaw Springs]; telling him that Colonel [Lewis] Morris will write to him about the "particulars in this Camp"; adding that "Virginia is at this time so immediately concerned, and attentive to her own Safety, that [he] fear[s] She can spare but little Aid to her sisters in the South."
