Description
1 item (2 pages) ; 24.9 x 20.2 cm
Notes
Written from Stratford Place, an address in London where Elliston is known to have lived.
Thomas Sheridan (Richard Brinsley Sheridan's son) was in this period joint proprietor and sole manager of the Lyceum Theatre.
The letter is signed, but neither the signature nor the body of the letter appears to be in Elliston's hand. The handwriting resembles that of an 1809 contract between Elliston and Dennis Lawler (MA 9554), also in the Morgan's collection, but not that of other verified examples of Elliston's handwriting. MA 9554 and 9556 may both be copies.
Removed from an extra-illustrated volume from the series Dramatic Memoirs (PML 9505-9528).
Provenance
Purchased from Henry Sotheran & Co., London, 1891.
Summary
Refusing to appear or rehearse at the Lyceum Theatre; referring Sheridan to his solicitor, W. E. Allen, for any discussion of legal measures to be taken.
