Summary
Concerning a son of Thorburn's "paying his addresses" to a "natural daughter" of Elliston's; saying that "[h]er education, owing to the indiscretion of her mother, had been much neglected, but she has now an opportunity by the interposition of a very kind philanthropist, to have a very liberal education. Her prospects would be blighted, if her studies are interrupted"; adding that he himself is the father of a very large family and thinks that it is his duty to warn Thorburn about his son's conduct; adding that Thorburn's son has proposed a private marriage; writing of his daughter: "She has not, nor is she likely to have any fortune from me. She is therefore relying solely on her future exertions to support herself, and, which can be only accomplished by a persevering industry in the Establishment where she is now placed."
