Summary
Regarding his forthcoming engagement at the Haymarket Theatre for the summer season: "Dialecticks avaunt! the bargain is struck, & our reasoning powers must be exerted in acting, rather than talking"; discussing the end of the winter season in Bristol and the schedule of benefits just before he joins Colman; adding "I shall be very glad to have the outline of yr intended operations, & the names of the operators fix'd or thought on"; strongly recommending the actor Francis Blissett: "It will grieve me if Blisset is not with you. He is so excellent an actor. But I fear he will not listen to an engagement for the whole season. Unless you limit his number of characters, certainly not. Think of it. Be assured, on my judgment, you ought not to lose him. His Falstaff, his Lord Duberly [...] are all inimitable. The first alone would in my mind be highly attractive. He must be kindly dealt with, or he is apt to be restive. I will however talk with him"; concluding "it will no doubt be best as early as possible to determine on those pieces which the abilities of yr company, & your own interest may make it necessary to perform, but let me hear of novelty from yr own pen."
