Summary
Concerning a medal for his service at Cowpens which he has not yet received; saying "I have made frequent application to obtain it and have been frequently disappointed. Gen'l Lincoln inform'd me that nothing prevented its being sent to me but the low situation of the Finances, and that I should certainly have it so soon as there was Money sufficient in the Treasury to defray the Expences. Now Sir I have to request you to repeat the application for this Matter & to pay some attention to the manner in which it may be done, and with Devices properly emblematical of the action for which it was ordered. I have so good an Opinion of your Taste as to wish to submit the Matter entirely to your direction; the Expence cannot be very considerable and I flatter myself the Financier on a proper application would advance a Sum sufficient to defray it, especially to gratify the Inclinations of a Man whose principle Study has been to obtain his Country's applause to his Conduct."
