Summary
Expressing his happiness "that the Royal Reg't of Ireland is in good order & most particularly that it is so healthy...I lament your want of medical assistance, which I fear cannot well be dispensed with in the Climate in which you are serving. I wrote the agents immediately upon the receipt of Coll. Wemyss application for a Surgeons mate to beg that they would use every endeavour in their power to procure one & I cannot lay any blame upon them for not having succeeded, as I find that it is almost impossible to find any. There have been advertisements from the Medical Board offering an additional pay of 3 or 4 Shillings per day to young men properly qualified for Hospital mates. I shall see however what can be done by private application in Scotland;" discussing clothing allowances and the need to fill vacancies in the Regiment.
