Summary
Reporting that two doctors had examined the Invalid Regiment and "selected eight men capable of marching that may be of some service in camp, of which I enclose a return, 7 of them I apprehend will be of little service under arms but as campcolour men & may supply the place of better that must be employed in those services, the eighth is, I believe, equal to any soldiers duty but has so artfully appeared to be maimed in his right arm that he has deceived former doctors nor could the above gentlemen readily discover the deceipt." asking for a copy of the standing orders that relate to the "times & occasions on which drummers were to beat & prohibiting it at all others..." saying he would be willing to pay a non-commissioned officer or Private to transcribe the orders so that they could be sent to him; adding, in a postscript, that he was enclosing a return of the casualties of his regiment.
