Summary
Giving orders to "proceed to the Great Bridge and on your arrival there you will take on you the Command of that Post; you will take every method in your Power to obtain such Intelligence of the Enemy as may be relied on, and transmit it to me; with every other Occurrence from Time to Time. Should you be forced from that Post, you'll retreat to the Northwest Landing, and there take every Precaution for the Defense of that pass, In case the Enemy should march against you, with any considerably Force, you will make immediate application to the State of North Carolina for assistance."
