Summary
Concerning military operations; saying "...I think it best to continue the design of Bombarding the Place, notwithstanding the Enemy have thrown in Two Regiments, to try what effect it may have. If it were to be done, I wish you would immediately throw up some works to Secure the Blockade better for the future, and desire you will give me your opinion whether We ought not make some Redoubts presently to strengthen the Garrison, and prevent any thing going in and out, which might facilitate the taking the place, in case We should be obliged to a formal Siege;" adding, in a postscript that since writing his letter he received one from him and is very satisfied with his conduct; saying "I heartily wish you good success, if you can reduce the place, it will be a good piece of Service. I write to Mons'r Tarazena that he may take what Troops can be Spared from Gand. or the Neighborhood to reinforce him if need be;" adding in an autograph postscript signed, "I do assure you, I think you have done every thing that was possible, you may be assur'd that I shall take care to have the Cap't exchang'd."
