Summary
Mentioning to him "that the Officers here belonging to the Georgia Brigade have complained to me & are greatly dissatisfyed that some Officers of their Corps have Resigned some time ago & are now Re-asuming their Commands again. - I begg to be informed the names of the Gentlemen who have realy Resigned in the Infantry or Horse - and whether you think those who remain should be promoted in case of a Vacancy while we have so few men, & their time so near expiring. I must think the Suffering of the Gentlemen & the Severity of their Duty since the Commencement of the Warr deserves some Indulgence but all those who have not Resigned and are not prisoners upon Parole should be here ready for any Service that may be required of them; we cannot think of much Regularity in our present Situation, if they cannot have proper Commands they may be usefull some way, & our State now requires every Mans assistance;" informing him, in a postscript dated August 13, 1779, of enemy troop movements along the Ogeechee River and Brier's Creek; telling him that "Cash, Artillery & Stores are much wanted."
