Congratulating him on his victory at the Battle of Eutaw Springs; remarking that they are to move rapidly in their siege of Yorktown; saying that "sixteen days of open trenches are talked of"; expressing his belief that they will "take his Lordship" [Cornwallis]; mentioning Sir Henry Clinton; reporting that he has been made a Senator and is thus "further from [joining Greene] now than ever"; noting that he has "nearly determined on accepting [the position of Senator] after the siege"; asking Greene to write to him "oftener and more in detail than heretofore."
