Summary
Acknowledging receipt of his letter and expressing his hope that communication between them will continue to be open; concerning troop movements by Colonel Monson and Holkar; reporting that according to his latest information, "his heavy guns were on the other side of Mackundrah Ghaut with only a trifling force and from the heavy rains having rendered the roads impassable they were not able to move. If Col. Murray can advance from Augein he might with great ease destroy this part of Holkar's force before they could receive any assistance from his troops on this side the Chumbul. The capture of these guns will be a very severe blow on Holkar, and must at a very early period ensure his total ruin. I must request you will communicate with Colonel Murray on this subject as the prospect of any letters reaching him in the event of his moving is extremely precarious."
