Congratulating him on his victory at Eutaw Springs; hoping he may soon congratulate him in Charleston; giving an account of a naval action near Yorktown; reporting that "Sir Henry Clinton who was at the Hook with a Body of troops Returned to New York"; telling him that they are starting to dig trenches near Yorktown; mentioning a skirmish between the men of the Duc de Lauzun [Armand-Louis de Gontaut] and [Banastre] Tarleton; writing that he thinks they ought to take Charleston next, and mentioning his intention of "making the Winter Campaign" with Greene.
