Notes
The letter is simply dated "28 thermidor" but in the letter from John Macleod to Sir James Pulteney, in which this letter was enclosed (MA 1268.7) Macleod refers to this letter as being written "as her last adieu to me on leaving the Hautes Pyrenées." Macleod left France in 1806; 28 thermidor would have been August 16th in 1806.
