Summary
Asking for his assistance in getting a copy of his discharge papers from May 1776, a copy of the Settlement that was made on his behalf with the United States "or any other papers your Honour may think may be benefitial to me in making my defence in s'd action;" asking that he use his "Influence that Some way may be prescribed by Congress to bar any action that have or may be commenced against paymasters who have rendered an account to and made a Settlement with the United States. otherwise your Hon'r I make no doubt is Sensible the paymaster must be Subject to many needless lawsuits and a great deal of unnecessary costs all which I Submit to your Superior Judgement;" asking, in a postscript, if he would let him know "the determination of Congress on the doings of the Circuit Court in my behalf & if unfavourable I wish you to try the fortunes(?) of the Petision I handed your Hon'r."
