Notes
The only date on the letter is "Thursday." However, Lansdowne's son, John Henry Petty (referred to as Wycombe in the letter) was traveling on the Continent in 1789; letters from Jeremy Bentham, who knew the family, record that Wycombe was in Warsaw, Stockholm and other locations during this period.

Summary
Concerning the travels and expenses of his son, Lord Wycombe; saying that "[w]hen he went abroad, he was furnish'd with Letters of recommendation and credit throughout Germany and Denmark, which were the only Countries he had then in contemplation to visit, since which time he has extended his circuit by going to Warrsaw, Dantzich and Stockholm"; arranging contacts and credit for his son in those cities; saying that Wycombe is "very regular & prudent in all respects"; adding that he is going "into the West the Week after the next, where I shall be very glad of the honour of seeing you, whenever you come our way."
