Summary
Describing the murder of his mother by his sister Mary and his own state of mind. Sating "My poor dearest sister has been the death of her own mother. I was at hand only time enough to snatch the knife out of her grasp." Reporting that she is currently in a mad house and will probably be moved to hospital soon. Thanking God that his own senses have been preserved and assuring Coleridge that he is very calm and composed. With a postscript proclaiming that he has given up poetry and permitting the anonymous publication of his poem. Asking Coleridge not to tell his wife, and begging him not to visit Lamb.
