Ordering him to "remain with your regiment at Manchester at present, my former orders notwithstanding - I will forward to you some salt & ammunition & will also reinforce you with a Company of rangers raised on the grants who well known the country - Scouts in front will at all time be necessary in order to prevent a [illegible] & to cover the country - You will please to give me the earliest information of any discoveries you shall make of important for me to know;" requesting, in a postscript, "a return of his regiment" as soon as possible.
