Summary
Saying "I should be very much interested by your preliminary essay in the Franco-Dutch catalogue if you would as you so kindly propose entrust it to me for a very short time, and I can promise to return it safely. I did not know of it, or should have wished to see it quite independently of your present work, for I had been much struck a year or two ago by your paper in Views & Reviews, which I do possess. L'y Lovelace is I hope bringing it this afternoon from the country where it had been accidentally left. I am going to send your prospectus to Lady Dorchester, and I may mention that I mean to subscribe for a copy on hand made paper. No one can be weaker and slighter than I am as an explorer of literature. I do like those that attract me in the best attainable form, but even of this subject I am too ignorant. My small knowledge of Montaigne is still alas! second hand - just enough to feel the greatness of his evergreen book and its wonderful beauty. I congratulate you on the revival of that great man in what I suppose is superb English, though Cotton spoke of the numerous and gross misinterpretations of Mr. Florio. Some day I hope I shall compare the original with your Florio. I am also glad to know of the new North - another important book I have not read. My bicycle is just returned from repairs and I may soon be able to make you a visit."
