Acknowledging receipt of his letter and saying that he expects Lord Mulgrave will have already communicated his answer to him; informing him that he does not think it proper for the Treasury to interfere with the Customs or Excise Boards in matters concerning Leave of Absence; saying he could do no more "than to write privately to one of the Commissioners of the Customs to express my wish that the Board would prolong the leave of Absence to Mr. Weston if they could do it consistently with their Public Duty."
