An introductory note to this manuscript transcript says "This MS transcript of Gilbert White's original MS 'The Naturalist's Journal' (now Additional MS 31846 [to 31851] in the British Museum); and was made in 1909 for W. H.Mullens, of Westfield Place, Battle, Sussex, by me, D. M. Jeayes."
The ledger in which Gilbert White made his daily recordings was invented by the Hon. Daines Barrington in 1767 as "The Naturalist's Journal;" Barrington made a gift of the journal to Gilbert White and White began using it in 1768 and continued to use it for his journals through June 1793, except for 1791.
