Remarking that he has been alone in the office for a couple of hours; asking if she received the Franklin Almanac he sent; noting that "there is nothing new or special" to write about but hoping her cold is better; mentioning that he saw Grant walking by himself that day, and noting that they always salute one another. Continuing the letter on "Friday forenoon, 1/2 past 11:" mentioning that he has been working all morning but has little to say and sending his love. With a postscript sending a couple of Washington papers.
