Summary
Concerning regimental affairs of the Royal Irish Regiment primarily concerned with personnel issues and supplies; transmitting monthly returns; discussing the Corsican campaign and expressing his hopes for continuing in the service (MA 1274.47) saying he fears "some Change may take place that may turn me out of Employment and lay me on the shelf - and that will agree very ill both with Disposition and Pocket;" writing of his ill health and frustration at being kept so long at Gibraltar (MA 1274.58); writing from Bath in January 1809 (MA 1274.63), he expresses his displeasure at not being employed for 3 years, details all the commands he successfully held and his frustration "when I reflect that instead of meeting a Reward due to these Services - I meet only cold Neglect - and see dayly officers that were serving under me as Cap'ts when I commanded a Brigade, promoted to Reg'ts, Governments, &c &c;" continuing to plead his case to Sir James Pulteney and expressing his fears of "secret and dark Enemies" working against him (MA 1274.66); discussing his living arrangements at "the Castle" which appears to be referring to his appointment on May 27, 1809 as Governor of Tynemouth Castle (MA 1274.68).
