Summary
Referring to the Battle of Eutaw Springs and thanking him for his letter giving "an account of that Glorious and well fought action"; mentioning the British surrender at Yorktown; explaining that he meant "to have been amongst the first" to write to the general with an account of that battle, but he was ill for several days after the surrender; reporting that he has been ordered to the command "on the Gloucester side"; writing, "believe me, my dear General, we are all sensible how much your Southern manoeuvres contributed to this happy Event" [the fall of Yorktown].
