Notes
The place of writing is simply given as "Theatre". In 1885 Wallack was the manager of several theatres in New York named Wallack's Theatre.
It is possible that this letter was addressed to William Davidge's son who was also an actor and also named William Davidge (1847-1899), but it seems more likely it was to Wallack's long-time friend, the elder William Davidge.
